Prince Doctor Settles Opioid Prescription Lawsuit

On Behalf of | Apr 13, 2018 | Medical Malpractice

Michael Todd Schulenberg this week settled the civil suit against him, by agreeing to pay $30,000 to settle a federal civil violation, while state prosecutors are yet to announce whether they will bring criminal charges relating to the death. Dr. Schulenberg is not accused of contributing to Prince’s death and is not the subject of any criminal case which may arise. Regardless, the civil suit arose as the doctor had prescribed opiates to Prince, using the name of his bodyguard, Kirk Johnson.

U.S Attorneys had pressed charges against Dr. Schulenberg as part of a move to tackle an ever-increasing opioid problem, in which they state medical professionals should be more responsible when prescribing these drugs. Schulenberg now has 30 days in which to pay his fine and has agreed to stricter monitoring and control of prescriptions of controlled substances for the next two years.

Medical Malpractice is 3rd Highest Cause of Death in the United States – Do Not Underestimate Your Case

A Johns Hopkins study revealed that medical malpractice is the third-largest killer in the United States – claiming more lives than many of the most deadly illnesses and diseases. More than 250,000 Americans die due to some form of medical malpractice each year, a figure surpassed only by heart disease and cancer. As medical malpractice is, in most cases, almost entirely preventable, it is important to hold medical professionals accountable for the aftermath of their errors.

When you, or a loved one, has been injured due to the negligence or willful dangerous actions of a medical professional, you are entitled to seek damages and compensation. Working with a California medical malpractice attorney can greatly increase your chances of recovering the maximum available settlement.
