Police Make Mistakes

On Behalf of | Mar 22, 2019 | Wrongful Death

There is a complex in our community where we believe that professionals like doctors, police, attorneys, judges, or other higher-ranking officials can’t make mistakes or they know everything. That is so far from the truth. Everyone who works those professions gets out of bed, brushes their teeth, and gets dressed just like everyone else. Sure they have dedicated their lives to a subject and know so much more than any layperson. But, they also trip upstairs, drop food on their shirt, and spill the morning coffee like the rest of us. What we mean to say at Licata & Yeremenko, A Professional Law Corporation in California, is that to be human is to err, and we are working with a lot of humans. Unfortunately, when someone of high ranking errs it can be devastating for someone or people. When those errors occur we must be ready, as a community, to stand tall and encourage justice to prevail. Our professional attorneys at Licata & Yeremenko, A Professional Law Corporation are ready to do just that.

When Police Are Human

Those who choose to wear their police uniforms and enter our streets every day are heroes who walk among us. There is no doubt that they deal with challenges every day that we civilians will never see. There is no doubt that those who wear the uniform deserve respect for putting their lives on the line. But as stated before, those heroes are also humans and humans make mistakes. Such is the case of a man who died before his time.

It was a normal day when narcotics detectives busted into the home of an 80-year-old engineer. The detectives had a search warrant for methamphetamine yet none were found on the property. What they did find were some weed and a few weapons, but no meth. It was also stated that the 80-year-old man picked up a semiautomatic and pointed it at the police force in his house. The police shot and killed the elderly man stating that he was a threat to their lives. The wife of the elderly man stated that her son’s friend smoked medical marijuana for her health in a trailer on their property. So not only was the sting a fail but now a wife is without a husband and an innocent elderly man was shot for no reason.

The family of the elderly man has put forth a wrongful death suit against the police department. With the help of a team of legal professionals and the community, justice can be given and received.
